Course Description

This course is designed to expose the students to the basic foundations of ESP that include the differences with General English (GE), the philosophical assumptions behind ESP, and the pedagogical aspects of ESP such as needs analysis, course design, and assessment. The students will be engaged in intensive and critical responses to readings, both required and self-select. In addition the students will be involved in simple analysis of a ESP course and textbook and see how the ESP is implemented in real classroom context.

1. Integrate theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in English as a Foreign Language education with the reference to level B2 of CEFR with other relevant supportive knowledge.
2. Perform effective lesson planning, teaching practice and evaluation in EFL education context with appropriate technology and resources.

Course Learning Outcomes  

After successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of fundamental theoretical bases of ESP (PELO # 1, 4, 5) 2.
2. Conduct simple Needs Analysis (PELO # 1, 4, 5, 6). 3.
3. Analyze ESP materials based on needs analysis (PELO # 1, 4, 5, 6).

Student Select Articles  
On the designated weeks, the students are to find, read, and discuss the articles on relevant topics.

The students are to write a critical review paper on the select topics on ESP (1000 words) 
Needs Analysis Report 
The students are to conduct, analyse, and report needs analysis on a select school/ group of students (3000-4000 words)
